From One Hater To Another

Perhaps it’s time we quit hating and start practicing what Dr. Martin Luther King preached. Dr. King said ” Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Unfortunately, it’s a whole lot easier saying what Dr. King said than doing what Dr. King did.

If we would stop for a moment and consider what Dr. King was able to accomplish by simply choosing to love his enemies and being light to the world, we could see their power in action. Being light and choosing to love our enemies are straight out of the Bible and the secret to Dr. King’s enormous success and, therefore, a winning combination. Light ALWAYS defeats darkness and love ALWAYS defeats hate. As a nation, we are at a crossroad and precipitously close to falling off the edge. Perhaps it’s time to again implement Dr. King’s strategy and start focusing our individual attention on correcting the problem and not simply talking about who caused it.

Change comes from people who are focused on solutions, not personalities. Hatred comes from bigots, defined as “a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices”, who focus on themselves and what’s in it for them and not on solutions. Deterioration comes from stagnation, defined as “ceasing to run or flow”, or in this case move or grow.

The enormity of our problems cannot be understated and evil always finds a rationale for doing what it does. But, it’s the truth that sets us free and if enough of us love unconditionally, listen unreservedly, and forgive wholeheartedly, then perhaps we can see Dr. King’s dream fully come into fruition.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
