Retirement

A door to walk through
Or more of the same;
Flying south for the winter,
New horizons to gain?

The choice we must all make
We individually must choose,
Coast to the finish line
Or make a difference, not cruise.

The Bible doesn’t mention retirement,
Just finishing strong,
After all God’s still working
And His ways can’t be wrong.

Your friends all around you
Are starting to pass;
You can throw in the towel,
Or step hard on the gas.

There’s lots of unfinished business
You still need to do.
Do we continue planting trees
Or just sit back and snooze?

I think I’ll keep fighting,
That’s what God said to do
And His ways are much better,
Though my days left are few.

Moses was an old man
When God sent him to Pharoah;
Abraham and Sarah in their old age
When their son became flesh and marrow.

John the Baptist ministered but a few years
Though the greatest Old Testament Prophet;
A lot can be accomplished, time submits to the Master
If we’ll do our part, rest assured we’ll all profit.

So let’s wake up us old-timers
Our time is right now
We were born for this moment
God will show us just how.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
