Moses is dead, rise up and cross the river Jordan into the land of milk and honey that I have already given you God tells Joshua in Joshua 1: 2. And, Joshua believed God and lead the Nation of Israel across the Jordan river, into the land of milk and honey, and defeated all of the vastly larger, better outfitted armies, some of which had Giants in their ranks, of the evil one. What if we believed God like that? Think how the church could positively impact the world for good and be a difference maker extraordinaire.
My wife’s always challenged me to see myself as God sees me and encourages me, that if I did, I’d be a much different person. As usual, she is correct. But I think that’s a problem many of us Christians have today, God’s words apply to you but not necessarily me. The consequence of which we often fear/fail too step out in faith and make a real difference in the world that Christ empowers us to be and do.
That and perhaps one other fact have resulted in our churches being full of so many members that don’t believe, totally, Gods word; resulting in our churches being anemic and powerless in our communities today. And, that other reason, in my humble opinion, is because we have been fed a steady diet of defeatism.
Allow me to explain. We are told in Matthew 28 that ALL authority in heaven and earth has been given King Jesus. We are told that we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus, Romans 8: 37; we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us; we are heirs of God and joint heirs of Christ Jesus, Romans 8:16 and 17; and on and on.
But at the same time we are taught that the world’s getting worse and worse and the church has to be raptured out of here before all “hell” breaks loose. Which is true and correct? Is it that Jesus doesn’t have as much power and sovereign control as we thought. Or, perhaps the church is much more powerful than most of us believe? God’s word does change lives and cultures when it’s read, believed, and acted on. We see whole scale revival in places like China, Africa, Russia, everywhere but the USA. Could it be that they truly, totally believe God’s word and act accordingly. After all, God’s word is powerful, He did “speak” the world into existence.
Christ followers filled with the Holy Spirit and believing and acting on God’s word can transform individuals AND the world. Believe it!
