Laughing and Life

The Bible doesn’t say Jesus laughed,
Though perhaps He often smiled;
When you’ve come to save the nations
Laughings just not in style.

Is man spring-loaded to laughing,
So perhaps we won’t cry
We wear our masks nobly
As we hang tough and try.

It says, for the joy set before Him
Jesus went to the cross,
How can the 2 go together
Aren’t joy and death opposites?

The thought contradicting,
Joy and death on the cross
But when you see it like Jesus
Your focus, results not the cost.

Can’t get my mind ’round it
The thought won’t compute.
But then I’m not Jesus
His Father’s will His focus.

For us, joy’s contentment on steroids,
Our future secure;
Not a feeling, but assurance,
God’s ruling for sure.

Setting your eyes on Someone
Greater than self,
Life’s meaning gets focused
And transcends all else.

We humans aren’t like Him
We focus on self,
But what if we changed from what if,
To there’s simply no doubt?

But if we changed our focus
Viewed life through spiritual eyes
We’d see its true meaning
S’been in the shadows all the while.

Humming birds like angels
Winging by just to talk
A cup of nectar, conversation
Take your time, care to walk?

We’re afraid of the dark,
Can’t stare at the sun,
Why do we point at rainbows
Smile at babies, boys run?

If we’d stop for a moment
To consider our laughs
We’d see somes for protection
Others just to react.

So laughings not the problem,
A symptom perhaps,
We know there’s more to it
Than our minds can protract.

But when we meet Jesus
Truth comes into view
Our vision gets clearer
Our laughter’s askew.

People our focus,
Other things drift away
Things once important
Not considered for days.

God’s joy engulfs us
Like a glove on a hand,
And henceforth and forever
It’s with Him I willl stand.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
