The Burning Of America

America is burning
Inside and out
We’ve traded what’s eternal
For seemly answers laced with doubt.

America once great now dying
Imploding from within
All the anger and the hatred
Causing the fires to start again.

But the problem goes much deeper
Not loving others is a start
But the problem lies within us
We think we’re so darn smart.

We’ve got all the answer
If they listen just to us
They’d see we have solutions
Though our lives have been a bust.

But we deserve what we are getting
We shouldn’t be surprised
60 million children slaughtered
We’ve believed a pack of lies.

If we can’t love little babies
Can we love at all?
It was destroying little children
That was the beginning of our fall.

If babies aren’t important
Does any life count at all
Their blood cries out for vengeance
A Holy God has heard their call.

Can we expect to get a blessing
When killing babies is a right
And Uncle Sam protects the killers
And the babies pay the price.

It’s an insanely slippery slope
When we start to discount God
Because only He is sovereign
And rules with an iron rod.

Then suddenly you notice
The riots in your town
You wonder how it happened
As your town is burning down.

So how do we begin to fix it?
Stop thinking that we can
As we see from Eve and Adam
Man’s the problem, God’s the plan.

Repentance is where we start
Each crying out to God
Admit that we are sinners
And pray we be allowed;

To begin again in Jesus
And let Him call the shots
And plead that he’d restore us
And our sins be blotted out.

If we don’t we’ll keep on burning
Our National symbol of discontent
And we’ll recall that lights in heaven
Eternal fires what Satan gets.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.

  2. I couldn’t agree more, we are leaving them a mess. Hopefully we’ll come to our senses, see that only God can save us from ourselves, repent, and be amazed by how He works all this together for our good.
