There’s A Little Dorothy In All of Us

Life is hard, the pain so real
Like an arrow shot through us
Though we pretend not to feel.

Not thinking of the fear
we use anger too hide
As we wander through life,
Not realizing the lie?

Unwittingly crafting protective walls,
Like cataracts on the eyes of our souls
We stumble through life surprised by it all.

We’ve convicted ourselves
and locked us up in jail
Though our cells seem mobile
We’re like straw once it’s been baled.

We go out for fun
on our weekend passes
Thinking we’re different,
not like all the masses.

Like Dorothy came to see
She was no longer in Kansas
As she talked with the munchkins,
contemplating her chances
Then skipped off to Oz
Her ruby slippers just a dancing.

On the way she met the Tin Man,
rusting in place,
His chest had been hollowed,
His feelings encased.

We become like robots
When we close up our hearts,
Focused not on each other
But on self and all our parts.

For the heart is the organ
that Satan abhors
Cause God dwells within it
And it’s Him that man adores.

The cat was a poor excuse for a lion,
Afraid of his shadow, roaring like a hare,
Who didn’t realize courage
Was doing right in spite o’ being scared.

So don’t count on Oz and his counterfeit curtain,
Thankfully Jesus ripped it in two on Calvary’s mountain,
It was then Dorothy’s homecoming became all but certain.

For love, grace and mercy
don’t exist in our dreams,
And Oz becomes a nightmare
When we plot, plan and scheme.

For the yellow brick road
is the wide road to destruction;
It’s the narrow, bloodstain road
that is the home in the right direction.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
