Feelings, temptations to sin
or something more noble,
like the eyes we see life through
and experience all God intends.

Feelings make life exciting,
without, life’s a bore;
feelings spice up the journey
so we want to do more.

Life without feelings
is like walking while dead,
arms and legs are moving
but you’re not getting ahead.

We must handle them wisely
but that’s true of most things;
too much of the good stuff
can bring trouble it seems.

God prefers we be honest
with all details of life;
He knows how we’re feeling,
the truth we can’t hide.

Understanding our feelings
many’ve never done,
afraid of their power
they stuff ’em and run.

Like when I was grieving
trying to keep tears in check;
’cause if I got started
could I stop, would I wreck?

Control becomes master
but it comes at a price;
when you hold it together
you turn warmth to ice.

You avoid painful feelings
but the good feelings flee,
your emotions mechanical,
not vibrant and free.

God made us with feelings
to experience life in all shades,
life lived in one color
surrounds us with gray.

Sure, we don’t feel the pain
that accompanies the journey,
only going through the motions
has a cost, it’s not free.

Take a chance, live your life,
be all you can be,
life lived to the fullest
requires our feelings be freed.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
