Our Self Fulfilling Government

We have a hugely unpopular President, Congress and Senate and yet we seem quite willing to let them do nothing but run up our national debt and focus all of their energies on getting re-elected or getting their way. We are not surprised they lie to us, in fact we expect them to. We all have a good idea what needs to be fixed yet nothing changes, no knew ideas, no corrective actions, no nothing. Just more blaming the other side and waiting for the next election.

Why don’t we throw ALL the bums out and start over?

Is it because we think “our” elected officials are OK, it’s all the other ones that need to be thrown out. Or, we think the system is to broke to fix? Or we really don’t care and there is nothing we could do about it if we did?

Perhaps the problems not our politicians but Us. We’ve gotten the leadership we deserve! Could it be because we are overall a Godless, dishonest, self-motivated and self-absorbed people? Not all, of course, but unfortunately, I fear, the majority or at least so it appears from the news, music, movies, etc.

Proverbs 14:12 says “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” We’ve put our trust in man to fix all our Nations troubles and what has it gotten us? Godless, dishonest, self-motivated and self-absorbed leadership. Sound familiar?

The answer to our nations woes is found in the Bible in 2 Chronicles 7: 14 which states “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” is often attributed to Edmund Burke though it has been found in none of his writings, etc. It, nevertheless, summarizes succinctly where we are today.

So, do we continue doing nothing or do we believe that God will do as He says. Let’s find out!

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
