Spirit of Death

Have you ever stopped to think why Zombies, ghosts, Super Hero’s, Halloween, etc. have become so popular of late? Or, why the occult and violent video games are on the rise? Or, the reason for suicide to be so alarmingly high in the land of opportunity and freedom?

It’s all because of the spirit of death that now controls our culture. We were at one time a nation founded upon biblical principles with God’s glory as our purpose and focus. Obviously, we were far from being a perfect nation but we were a purposeful nation bent on advancing God’s Kingdom.

All that changed in 1973 when the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision came down and abortion was legalized in America. The spirit of death had been unleashed on America and we enlightened, liberated Americans had drifted so far from our Christian moorings that we barely gave it a second thought. Now, 54,000,000 dead children later, the spirit of death has a strangle hold on our nation and it’s future. We are reaping what we sowed.

Proverbs 14: 12 summarizes well the reality of abortion when it says “there is a way that seems right to a man but it’s end is the Way of Death” (emphasis added).

What is the spirit of death? The spirit of death is a demonic presence that devalues life and thirsts after bloodshed/murder/mayhem. God’s word says that life is in the blood and when innocent blood is spilled and the people that know it’s happening do nothing, bloodshed will consume them as well.

And when the spirit of death arrives, he brings along a host of other demons as well such as suicide, murder, disease, addiction, deception, hatred, fear, guilt, licentiousness and all hell bent on destroying as many lives as possible.

God’s word tells us in Genesis 4: 10 that after Cain murdered his brother Abel that Abel’s blood cried out to God from the ground and that Cain was under a curse and driven from the ground which opened its mouth to receive Abel’s blood. Ezekiel 35: 6 states “Therefore, as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you”. Numbers 35: 33 tells us that bloodshed pollutes the land. Psalm 106: 37 through 40 tells us that the wrath of the Lord was kindled against his people for failure to protect the innocent. These verses are pretty clear about God’s thoughts about bloodshed and those who do nothing to stop it.

President Abraham Lincoln understood this principle when he stated in his second inaugural address that God’s judgment was on the north and the south because of the shed blood of the slaves and the Civil War was God’s judgment for it. If 600,000 men died because of the bloodshed of slavery, how many more must die for the bloodshed of 54,000,000 helpless, defenseless babies that have died by abortion.

Let us consider some examples of how the spirit of death has left a trail of bloodshed and destruction in the USA. More Americans will die from suicide than from automobile accidents. Death by suicide has risen 30% in the 35 to 64 year age group from 1999 to 2010. Suicide accounts for 13% of all deaths for 10 to 24 year olds, doubling since 1950 and 15.8% of this same age group have had thoughts of suicide. 7.8% of all teenagers attempted suicide in 2011. There’s been a 128% increase in suicide by 10 to 14-year-olds since 1980. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for children 12 to 18 years old and the third cause of death for 18 to 22-year-olds. Overall suicide accounts for the second-most causes of death in 10 to 24 year olds. 1out of 6 high school students has seriously considered suicide and 1 in 12 have attempted it. Suicide stalks every age group in America and most of us do not have a clue why!

But the spirit of death doesn’t stop there. The Third World Network states that “during the past 20 years, at least 30 new diseases have emerged, for many of which there is no treatment, cure or vaccine, or the possibility of effective prevention or control. In addition, the uncontrolled and inappropriate use of antibiotics has resulted in increased antimicrobial resistance and is seriously threatening the drug control strategies against such common diseases as tuberculosis, malaria, collar collar, dysentery and pneumonia”.

Since 1980 there have been at least 62 mass shootings in the United States with 24 occurring in the last seven years alone.

Every day in the United States 105 people die as a result of drug overdose and another 6,748 are treated in emergency rooms. Drug overdose death rates have been increasing since 1992 with 102% increase from 1999 to 2010. There has been a 400% increase in death from prescription painkillers amongst women and a 265% increase amongst men from the period 1999 to 2010. Addiction is now at epidemic proportions and touches every strata of our culture with no let up in sight.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. The spirit of death has impacted every area of our lives. We’ve twice elected a president who thinks partial birth abortion* should be legal in our country. Likewise, the majority of senators in the US Senate, many of our congressional representatives, the majority of our Supreme Court Justices, most all of our mainline church denominations and the majority of our citizenry believe that abortion is every women’s fundamental right.

It’s plain to see that the spirit of death has hardened the soul of this once great Nation. And, sadly, it’s not just this nation but for the most part the entire world. The spirit of death touches every area of our lives from when and if we are born; to the quality of the life we live; to our physical, spiritual, psychological and sociological well-being; and how we die (especially so now that government encouraged and sanctioned euthanasia is just around the corner with baby boomers reaching “old age” and our Country’s enormous debt). In this spirit of death culture, God is no longer welcome in our government, our schools, the laws we make, our work places, many churches, civic organizations and on and on. The USA, once the home of the brave and land of the free, is now a nation that has turned it’s back on the most defenseless of all human beings and is drowning in a sea of innocent blood. We’ve sown bloodshed and we are and will continue reaping bloodshed unless/until we come to our senses.

We are, however, not without hope even though in many respects the countries problem can be laid at the door of the church because it’s the church that is called to be salt and light and appears to have failed at its calling. So Church do we believe God or not because He tells us in 2 Chronicles 7: 14 “If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”. When the Church acts like the Church is suppose to act, then the gates of hell will not, cannot prevail against it, period! The Church must lead this Nation to repentance for the bloodshed all around us or we are surely doomed to drown in it. Rise up o’ Church and lead! Only you through the Christ can save us!

*the unborn baby’s foot is grabbed with forceps and pulled out of the birth canal until only part of the head is exposed. Next, the executioner sticks a scissors into the head of the baby and opens it to make the hole bigger. Finally, he/she sucks the baby’s brains out with a suction catheter until the skull collapses. Then the dead baby is removed and discarded.

About menmourningmoments

I'm happily married, the Father of 2 sons and 2 daughters and 4 beautiful grandchildren. Death is all around us but somehow we've managed to distance ourselves from it. Men, Mourning, Moments is about how the death of my son awakened me to life & the desire to seize every moment as though it were my last. It's about making sense of life in the good times and bad and allowing GOD to carry me and teach me through the hard times in life.
